JDK Logistics LLC Our History
It all began back in the early '50s in Mindoro, Wisconsin, when Vilas "Pete" Kirchner bought his first truck for hauling canned milk from local farms to the Mindoro creamery. Later, he partnered with LaVerne Mikkelson, forming K & M Haulers. Pete's sons, Danny, Richard aka "Dick," and Davey aka "Crockett," joined in hauling milk as the business expanded, reaching Blair, WI. Upon retirement, the milk routes and equipment were sold, as the boys did not take over the business.
Three days after graduation, Crockett was California-bound with his cousin Bob in a cabover Peterbilt, loaded with cheese, and has been driving ever since. In the early 2000s, Crockett purchased his first truck and leased it to the same company Bob was with at the time, hauling refrigerated LTL freight.
In 2008, Bob decided to get his carrier authority and started ARM Transportation, running to Houston, TX, and back every week. Soon, ARM grew, and by 2010, Bob persuaded Kyle, Crockett's eldest son, to buy his first truck and reefer, becoming the 5th owner-operator leased to ARM Transportation.
Kyle drove that initial truck, a 2003 Peterbilt 379 with a C-16 Cat, for about a year before selling it. (And yes, he knows now he never should have sold that truck). He spent time in the ARM office, learning the business side until his dad's medical procedure left him laid up for months. That's when Kyle jumped into his dad's truck, hauling his LTL loads weekly.
After 3 months, Kyle realized how nice and peaceful it was being back in the truck. No computers, no 100 calls a day—just doing the job with nothing else and no one else to worry about. When Crockett recovered, Kyle wasn't ready to return to the office, so he stayed in the 379X. Crockett got his 359 out of the shed, and they both continued doing the LTL loads.
In 2015, during lunch in Melrose, Bob came in, sat down, and told Kyle now was the time. He aimed to semi-retire and golf more. The plan, discussed over the years, was for Kyle to buy ARM Transportation from Bob. Bob would then return to over-the-road driving, as much or as little as he desired, depending on good golfing weather or not!
On October 1st, 2015, Kyle officially bought ARM Transportation. Over the years, ARM has diminished in size as more individuals have entered retirement.
Since 2022 Our Future
As ARM was shrinking, Kyle noticed that customers kept calling, offering more loads than ARM trucks alone could handle. Recognizing the need to find a solution, he had discussions with customers about obtaining broker authority. Overwhelmingly, they all expressed interest, stating, "If you remain my point of contact and ensure consistent prices and service, we can sure try it." In 2021, Kyle initiated and founded JDK Logistics LLC.
In 2022, Patriot Warehousing of Black River Falls LLC began. Responding to years of customer inquiries about warehousing, we took the leap, purchasing a 20,000-square foot facility in Black River Falls, WI, on 10 acres. Conveniently located 2 hours from Madison and Minneapolis-St. Paul, right off Interstate 94.
With evolving changes and the ability to meet customers' needs, there arose a need for additional manpower. To better serve our customers, in January 2024, Jeremy Kirchner, Dick's son and one of Pete's other grandsons, joined to aid in the growth of these businesses.
